Qualifying welds on non standard (deformed) sections

    Hello
    Could someone clarify this for me..
    What is necessary if a client wants to qualify the weld to AS1554.1 when the tube end is crimped as shown in the photo. I am a little confused as the is no reference to this sort of situation in the code. The deformed tube end would now be non standard so not sure how this can be qualified.

    Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Probably a bit late now, however if you refer to clause 4.5.5.4, it has the flattened circular hollow section listed for prequalified joints.

    If your joint meets this criteria, all is good.

    If it is “non-standard” as you say, determine the weld preparation & material grade to be used, and develop a procedure from this. The flattening of the tube does not form part of weld procedure.
